THS May consultant of the month
Our Consultant of the Month for May is Kelly Boyd, who currently serves as executive housekeeper at the Hodges Bay Resort & Spa on Antigua, an island in the Caribbean. This assignment marks a milestone as THS’s first offshore placement, and Kelly was the right person to take it on.
With more than 27 years of hospitality leadership, Kelly has held roles including chief engineer, operations manager, assistant general manager and general manager. He has lived and worked across the U.S. and abroad and is known for his direct communication style and ability to bring structure and consistency to every task force assignment.
Early career and military service
Kelly grew up in the Bronx, a New York City borough, and describes himself as a “pretty tough kid.” He now calls Georgia home but credits his time in the U.S. Marine Corps as a life-changing experience that shaped his leadership style. He served in California, Hawaii, Alaska and the Middle East during the Gulf War, managing runway operations and learning the value of discipline, accountability and working with people from various backgrounds.
After eight years in the military, Kelly returned to Georgia to attend college. When he learned he was going to become a father, he joined The Westin Peachtree Plaza, Atlanta, as assistant director of housekeeping, and that’s where his hospitality career took root.
Life outside the job
Kelly is a proud “girl dad” to two daughters, and when home from assignment, they enjoy cooking together. He’s also a jazz fan and an avid gamer. He jokes that jumping out of helicopters was easy; raising daughters is the bigger challenge.
How he stands out
The values he learned in the Marines still guide his approach today. Kelly describes himself as motivated, organized, engaged and a direct communicator. He approaches every property with a learner’s mindset and adapts quickly to new systems, teams and cultures. His advice includes:
• Give the same respect you expect
• Stay calm and don’t lose your temper
• Ask questions; learn the operation
• Pay attention to people, processes and guest expectations
• Do what it takes to get the job done right
We’re proud to have Kelly representing THS in the field. Congratulations and thank you for all you bring to the team.
Each month THS presents a Consultant of the Month award to someone working in the field. In addition to this spotlight article in Transformation Post, the honoree receives a gift box and gift card.
